Hello, and thank you for stopping by!
I'm Daria, and I'm a certified teacher for children who are blind and visually impaired. I have a Masters of Education degree from Teachers College, Columbia University, and I'm very passionate about what I do.
This blog is a work in progress, and will concentrate mostly on my experience as an educator, as well as a person who is living with a visual impairment. My goal is to help parents, teachers and students understand what it may be like having a visual impairment, and how it may impact one's social, educational and emotional growth. I will include my experiences with things such as learning braille, acquiring independence, and being one's own advocate. My ultimate goal is to use my own exceptionality to help others who are living with the same condition. I hope, at some point in my career to make a difference, no matter how small.
This will not be a scientific journal, because there are so many of them out there. This will be a personal account, which I hope can be of help in the classroom, as well as in real life.
Most importantly, I want to include my readers. So, if there's something you'd like to know, drop me a line. Even if this blog is dealing with my life, I'd like it to be about helping others. My contact information is on my profile, so feel free to check it out.
Thank you again for stopping by, and I hope to hear from you.
